Volker Stevin Contracting and its family of companies are excited to announce the reopening of its Aldersyde Asphalt Plant on July 10, 2023.
“It’s an exciting time for us,” said Volker Stevin Contracting’s General Manager of Plants, Pits and Oil Corey Stasiuk. “The old plant produced more than 2.4 million tonnes over the last 20 years, and it was time to look at increasing production, loadout capabilities, and reducing the facility’s environmental footprint.”
When looking for a new location for the Aldersyde Asphalt Plant, Volker Stevin Contracting set its sights on not-too-distant horizons; it is 800 metres northwest of the previous location, directly north of the Volker Stevin Contracting Equipment Maintenance facility.
The new plant offers our customers increased efficiency with a focus on sustainability. “One of the key additions to the plant is another loadout lane. At our old plant, you would sometimes see more than 20 trucks waiting for their loads. With the second lane, we will decrease the time trucks wait for their asphalt, reducing the time spent idling and decreasing carbon emissions,” said Corey.
“We also increased the size of our drum, which now matches the capacity at our Spyhill Plant. The new plant can produce up to 350 tonnes of asphalt per hour in ideal conditions, compared to the previous plant’s 250 tonnes per hour. At peak, the new drum will produce 1,200 more tonnes daily,” said Corey, “the new plant configuration allows us to produce 40 percent more asphalt.”
“This was a large undertaking for our teams,” said Fred Desjarlais, Volker Stevin Canada’s President and CEO. “It was an all-hands-on-deck approach to the facility, with our Plants, Pits and Oil team, Underground and Roads crews, and trade partners, and I am so impressed with their work. I know this facility will continue to serve our companies, communities and clients for years to come. Thank you, and kudos to all involved!”
At Volker Stevin, our family of companies is committed to innovation and continuous improvement, and we believe this dedication benefits the communities we serve and our clients. The new Aldersyde Asphalt Plant has a keen focus on our future, incorporating long-term sustainable features and strengthening our commitment to environmentally responsible operations.
